Advanced solid modeling and meshing for OpenFOAM
This course is a general introduction to solid modeling using Onshape and meshing using OpenFOAM® technology, everything done using open source technology.
During this training, we introduce the solid modeling application Onshape, and we show how to use this application to generate clean geometries to be used with OpenFOAM® meshers (snappyHexMesh) or any other commercial or open-source mesher (such as cfMesh, gmsh, tetgen, pointwise).
We also explore in details OpenFOAM® meshing applications blockMesh and snappyHexMesh, and we show how to make effective use of these tools to create high-quality meshes for industrial purposes.
Topics to be covered:
Brief introduction to Onshape environment
Introduction to solid modeling using Onshape
Creating solid models from scratch
Brief introduction to OpenFOAM® meshing technology
Understanding OpenFOAM® meshing technology (blockMesh and snappyHexMesh)
Mesh quality assessment
Mesh manipulation, topological selections, and conversion utilities
Setting boundary conditions and initial conditions
Boundary layer meshing
Meshing in parallel
As CFD optimization highly relies on parametrization of the geometry generation and meshing stages, this course is offered the day previous to the advanced optimization course. If you are interested in following the optimization training, we highly recommend you to follow this session.
This classroom training is offered in cooperation with the University of Genova. The fee includes the printed material and a USB key with the supporting material. Attendees are not required to bring their own laptop since workstations with pre-installed software will be available.
